Selwood Science & Puzzles has been running workshops for school students for many years and has now developed a set of hands-on microprocesor-based Maths workshop activities for Stages 1, 2 & 3 and travels to schools with these activities. The groups can be divided into stages or classes from K -6. Activities cover the areas of Maths involving time, decimals, shapes, money & patterns as well as students building skills in addition, substraction, multiplication & division. This happens through games & activities as knocking skittles over, rolling balls, completing number equations & pattern matching. Generally, the student selects ther answer from a set of tiles, and the correct response causes a light to flash, so the student gets immediate feedback - they know if they have the correct response. Students can then repeat the activity with different numbers or move to another one. Since the difficulty of the activity can be selected by the student or teacher, all ranges of student ability can be catered for, even within the stage. These maths-based activities called Playing with Maths have been specifically developed for school aged children, and the microprocessor controlled activities have been provisionally patented, so are exclusive to Selwood Science & Puzzles. The activities need to be set up in a hall, library, double classroom or similar. Session times are around 45-60 minutes but this can be adapted top fit in with the school''s timetable. Generally, the minimum number of students is 100 over 2 sessions at a cost of $5.00 plus GST per student. Each session is designed for 40-60 students, but this is flexible as it is often easier to use classes, so the session numbers would depend on the class sizes. It is possible to cater for over 200 students if 4 sessions can be held in the one day. For a smaller number of student numbers, please contact for current pricing.
